A private Rainbow Mountain tour covers the same route as our shared departures — Cusipata, breakfast, Phulawasipata, the 5,090m viewpoint — with one difference that changes the whole day: nobody else is waiting for you. You set the departure time, stop where you want for photographs, walk at the pace that suits the slowest person in your group, and take as long as you like at the top. For families with children, for travellers unsure how they will handle the altitude, and for photographers who want the early light, it is worth the difference in price.
Leave earlier for the light, or later if your group would rather sleep. The day is built around you.
The guide walks with your group only — including through the Red Valley, if you want it.

Honestly, usually not. With two travellers the shared departure gives you the same mountain, the same guide standard and the same food for a fraction of the cost. Private tours make sense from about four people, or when someone in the group needs the flexibility.
